Columbus Day
(Dan Gonzalez)
It came as no surprise
The new world was older
Than the king and the queen and the Spanish pride
The day the boats arrived
The indians ran over
To greet the men from the boats with a smile
Columbus day
Marks the feat of an age
The age of imperialists
One we’re still living in
It’s a holiday
That celebrates the taking
When will we start giving gifts
On Columbus day
They made themselves at home
The new world was taken
Without a fight from unsuspecting foes
They loaded up with gold
And returned with slaves once natives
And became the world’s great heroes
Columbus day
Marks the feat of an age
The age of imperialists
One we’re still living in
It’s a holiday
That celebrates the taking
When will we start giving gifts
On Columbus day
